ISO 22301:2019 is the latest version of the international standard for Business Continuity Management Systems. This standard provides a best practice framework to support organizations to effectively manage the impact of a disruption to its normal operation. The purpose of the standard is not necessarily to achieve total mitigation of impact from disruption. It is to support an organization to understand the amount and type of impact it is willing to accept following a disruption. Following which the organization develops a business continuity system sized correctly for the organizational need.

This document is applicable to all types and sizes of organizations that:

a) implement, maintain and improve a BCMS;
b) seek to ensure conformity with stated business continuity policy;
c) need to be able to continue to deliver products and services at an acceptable predefined capacity during a disruption;
d) seek to enhance their resilience through the effective application of the BCMS.
This document can be used to assess an organization’s ability to meet its own business continuity needs and obligations.
